April 2015: Jizhou Li wins the 2015 Ralph Budd Award for Research in Engineering. This award, made possible through a gift from Mr. Ralph Budd, a former President of the Burlington Lines, is given annually to the graduate student judged to have the best doctoral thesis in the School of Engineering. Established in June 1935, the Budd award is one of the oldest and most prestigious awards for Rice graduate students.

The Finite Element Rodeo took place at Rice on March 2-3 2012. There were 100 participants and 37 talks. The rodeo was dedicated to Professor Graham Carey.
